SUMMARY:Ask Me Anything (AMA) for Sustainability-Driven Entrepreneurs
DESCRIPTION:This will be a candid conversation between sustainability-driven founders and a pure founder exchange of best practices and experiences.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nIf you’re a sustainability-driven founder at the early stage of growing your business\, you definitely do not want to miss this event. It’s a great opportunity to connect with these two early-stage founders in the same space and ask them any questions you may have. Make sure you read their stories below before submitting your question on the registration page. Or just ask them in the LIVE event. \n\nSpeakers:\nMandy Yeung – Founder of Bobagreen \nBobagreen is an online bubble tea brand based on the idea that small actions can lead to big changes. We sell DIY bubble tea kits filled with quality bubble tea and eco-friendly bubble tea accessories. We’re on a mission to tackle the single-use plastic problem. One single plastic bubble tea cup doesn’t sound like a big deal\, but the average bubble tea shop sells 150 cups a day\, and just one of the popular brands\, Gong Cha has over 1\,500 locations worldwide. That’s over 82 MILLION plastic cups\, lids\, and straws from one bubble tea chain alone. We believe that by offering consumers ways to craft their own quality bubble tea drink at home (made with real loose tea leaves!) and offering a thoughtfully designed reusable cup and straw options so they can declare “NO THANKS” to single use plastic by this growing industry\, we can spark a positive chain reaction for the environment. \nBorn in Hong Kong and raised in New York City\, Mandy grew up wanting to understand how the world works. After 6 years in construction management\, Mandy enrolled at Columbia Business School with a desire to do good through business. Upon graduation\, Mandy initially returned to the work force instead of following her North Star\, because of the risk averse mentality she held as a first-generation immigrant. However\, at 6 months pregnant\, she realized that she needed to be a worthy role model to the child she was bringing into this world. Mandy started bobagreen to share her love of bubble tea with the world\, and\, more importantly\, help reduce the single-use plastic used by the boba industry. \nDeepika Phakke – Founder of Nama Water \nNama Water is a sustainable bottled water startup based in San Francisco. We serve Actually Ethical Water and source water using zero-gravity techniques from a spring deep in the Appalachian mountains. Our bottles have >70% recycled aluminum vs 25% in the vast majority water brands in the market. We are the world’s first zero waste bottled water company and we are working with recyclers to remove equivalent aluminum from circulation. \nDeepika is a long time Googler. She spent the last decade building and scaling Google’s $20bn ads business working across 7+ teams\, moving her career from India to San Francisco via New York. Having worked with world-class leaders and hosted a variety of climate change talks\, she pivoted her career to building a conscious and sustainable planet starting with Nama Water.

SUMMARY:Ask Me Anything (AMA) for Community-Based Entrepreneurs
DESCRIPTION:This will be a fun and candid conversation between founders and a pure founder exchange of best practices\, experiences and stories.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nIf you’re a community or service-based entrepreneur\, especially if your business has a storefront\, you definitely do not want to miss this event. It’s a great opportunity to connect with three successful entrepreneurs in the same space and ask them any questions you may have. Make sure you read their stories below before submitting your question on the registration page. Or just ask them in the LIVE event. \n\nSpeakers:\nAshley Cavadas and Hannah Lokken – Co-owners and lead teachers of Art Strong \nArt Strong is a Long Island City based Arts Studio founded by NYC Art Teachers Ashley and Hannah. Art Strong brings exploratory art making practices including drawing\, painting\, printmaking\, sculpture\, and much more to children 2 to 16 years old. The inspiration behind this studio stems from the founders’ never-ending passion for the arts\, creativity\, and getting messy. \nAshley and Hannah met in grad school at Teachers College Columbia University and through their first teaching jobs they quickly realized how much art education is lacking in NYC schools. They began by doing classes and camps on weekends and when schools were closed for holidays and eventually picked up momentum and started to grow a following. After 3 years they finally found our own studio space and started to run the business full time and have programming 7 days a week. \n  \nThuy Petersen – Owner of House of Playful Soul \nHouse Of Playful Soul or HOPS as we affectionately call it\, is a children’s learning and development play center located in Forest Hills. HOPS was purpose built to use play as the conduit for children and families to deliver on our founding principles to cultivate learning\, connect with others\, and serve our community together. We call this Play With Purpose \nThuy is a mom of three\, has a full time job and still managed to start a business because she wanted to start a space for young families that nurtured development\, connection and service to the community. HOPS was officially launched in March\, 2020\, right before the pandemic shutdown. The timing couldn’t get any worse. They have to close the space right away for several months. “We’ve had enormous challenges during Covid. But the silver lining is that it forced us to think about the business differently how we can serve our community. Recognizing all the concerns from the parents\, we built our Pre-school program from the ground up and launched it in September 2020. We also launched a series of Play School classes in the beginning of 2021.” Fast forward to now\, HOPS has been growing steadily and has become a community driven sustainable business.

It’s the perfect Dipping Sauce for any type of food. They currently offer three flavors: The Original\, Ginger Vegan and Thai BBQ. \nSutta was born and raised in Thailand. She grew up learning how to make traditional Thai dishes by cooking with her mother and working in the country’s most popular restaurants. “When you enjoy a dish in Thailand\, it’s usually accompanied by Nam Jim sauce – one of the many spicy dipping sauces. When I moved to the United States in 2011\, I couldn’t find anything that tasted as good.” Sutta said. \nShe began making Thai sauces from scratch using Thai bird chili peppers\, lime juice\, garlic and fresh herbs. She started by serving the sauce at dinner parties and the guests couldn’t get enough. “Sutta\, can you make extra so that I can bring some home and enjoy it during the week?” These requests multiplied after each and every gathering. Fast forward two years later\, she’s now selling in hundreds of stores nationwide\, including many Whole Foods locations in NYC. \n  \n**You will receive a Zoom link the day before the event.\nThe AMA Series is part of the 2022 Queens StartUP Competition Program. This workshop is open to everyone. You do not need to be a StartUP participant to join this event.
